We miss you, Sporty!

This past week was very hard as we had to say goodbye to our much loved family dog, Sport. Writing this post is doubly hard as the ink has hardly dried on my last post about our kitty Midnight. Losing one pet is hard enough, but two in a few weeks...very hard.

If Sport were to have an obituary written about him it would go something like this...

Sport Blackhawk Trokey, 11, Lee's Summit, died July 30, 2008 after a brief battle with osteosarcoma. Sport was born in Kansas City in June of 1997. He went to live with his "forever family" in August of 1997. He was the biggest in his litter and was soon found to have an even bigger heart as his love for his family was evident. Sport was a gift for his owner David's tenth birthday. David was soon known to Sport as his "boy." When David would get off the bus from school, we would say, "Sport, go see your boy!" His tail never stopped wagging when that little boy was around.

Sport was raised in Lee's Summit learning most of his tricks from his master, Mark, who he loved deeply. Sport learned very quickly to chew up a foam mattress in his kennel, chew up each pair of shoes David owned, and eat an entire german chocolate cake that was on the counter! Sport also learned how to sit, lay down, shake, fetch, and get the newspaper, which he proceeded to do up until the day he died! He was amazing.

Some of Sports other favorite activities included chasing lasers, playing ball, wrestling with Mark and David, going to the lake, swimming, and chasing fireworks. Sport loved this so much that he broke through a screen door in order to get to a lit firework! He was a true hunting breed and the smell of "gunsmoke" must have beckoned him!

Sport was a loving dog who was a perfect example of what it means to be loyal. He was fiercely loyal to his family and in the spirit of labrador retrievers, Sport was eager to please, gentle, and extremely intelligent.

Sport is survived by his family, Mark and Linda, both of the home. Other survivors include Tiffany her, husband and son, Jeremy and Aaron, Katie and son, Austin, and "his boy,"David.

Doggie kisses!!!
Sport being spoiled and hanging out on Tiff and Jeremy's bed when mom and dad were out of town. (2006)
One of my favorite pics of Sport; He looks so regal while keeping watch over Austin soon after he was born. He was so protective and right by his side. He was so concerned each time he would hear Austin crying. (2005)

Sport and Tiff. He LOVED being on the water and even more loved being a part of the family.

Here's Sport with dad and David one weekend at the lake. I love this picture because it looks like Sport is smiling! If you look at the bench in the back of the boat you'll see that the vinyl is ripped. That's because in all of Sport's years he would NEVER jump into the water even though he LOVED to swim. Dad and David tried to get him to jump into the water and he was so scared he ripped the seat cushion! He had to get all 100 plus pounds of him thrown into the water to cool off, but never would he jump in by himself.

I, along with the rest of my family, loved this dog immensely and will miss him greatly. He was truly a member of our family and we will all cherish those eleven years of memories.

Tiff, you have had a rough few weeks. This brings tears to my eyes as I have learned the love of a dog with our Scout. What great pictures to share. You can tell Sport was defiantly happy and content with his family.

Thanks girl for all of your suggestions. You have really been a big help with all of our "issues"! I am so sorry to hear about your loses. Losing a pet is like losing a family member! If you need anything let me know!
